Greetings from the belly of the Covid beast.
The Omicron varient is sweeping through our town (and country) at lightening speed; we are being exposed despite our most careful efforts to isolate and stay safe. Here in the studio, we continue to take precautions to keep everyone as protected as possible. In addition to regularly cleaning the studio and requiring masks, we are following the CDC changing guidelines. Per their guidance, we will isolate if we experience symptoms. If you have been exposed and do not feel comfortable coming in, you will not be charged for cancellations.
Please reach out if you have any questions about our protocol. We know that movement is a way of staying sane in this intense time, so please don't hesitate to reach out and rest assured that we are doing what we can.
In that spirit, we are going to open up Derya's workshop for people who want to participate over ZOOM. See below for registration details. It's guaranteed to be a grounding and healing class, and we hope you feel inspired to join us.
Katie will also be offering an online writing and movement course called SomaScribe, beginning on January 26th. Read on for more details
We appreciate our community, and hope you are staying well through this wild ride. Yours, Katie, Jen and the entire Soma crew

Breathing is the central pump of our body that influences how everything else moves.
If we aren’t using this pump properly, we can develop asymmetries and pain syndromes in all areas of the body. We may also lose our ability to manage stress well, resulting in feelings of fatigue, difficulty gaining strength, and systemic illness.Breathing better helps us move more freely, with greater ease, and generate more power with less effort. In this workshop you'll learn about the most common challenges to breathing and how to easily and effectively correct them.Come learn how to breathe better, move better, and feel better!
***Proof of Vaccination or Negative Covid Test Required***

“For as long as I remember, even as a child running barefoot over river rocks, the way back to myself has been through writing and dance. Movement taught me how to befriend the soft and wild animal of my body; taught me how to listen to the emotions and sensations stored in her tissues. The private pages of my journal gave me permission to tell myself the truth about life and find meaning.
Now, after years of writing and dancing professionally, my practice has evolved into a way of letting my body tell her story. Combining movement and reflective journaling, SomaScribe is my way of sharing the rituals and process I’ve learned. There is a community of us in this world who long for rituals that help us remember who we are on deep, creative levels—it’s time we find each other and play.
Those familiar with Julia Cameron’s “The Artist’s Way” will no doubt recognize her influence on this class. When she explains that “Survival lies in sanity, and sanity lies in paying attention… the capacity for delight is the gift of paying attention,” her words speak directly to me, and perhaps to you.
With SomaScribe, we combine two different practices that integrate the psyche, body, and soul. We will activate our imaginations, and reconcile the rift between our thoughts, feelings, and instincts. We will rewire our brains so our cognitive lobes can converse with the primal parts. We will unlock the stories that live within our skin and develop our ability to pay attention through any number of challenges. And plus, oh yeah, we’ll have a lot of fun doing it. “
